We’ve had the privilege of walking alongside Chikondi, one of our kids in the Champs program. This year, she took a big step forward by enrolling in our Vocational Training Program, pursuing her dream of becoming a renowned tailor.
But her journey so far hasn’t been without challenges.
Chikondi’s mother recently opened up to us about a significant challenge her daughter has been facing in class and at home:
“She has been telling me how she desires to become a renowned tailor one day, but she has been frustrated by her eye problems of late. We went to a public hospital hoping to be helped, only to be told we need to buy her a pair of eyeglasses—which I cannot afford. I couldn’t help but feel so sorry for being so helpless not to do something about it.”
This was all we needed to hear. We got her prescription numbers—and surprised Chikondi in her classroom with a brand new pair of eyeglasses!
She speaks through sign language, so when she saw the glasses, she erupted in smiles and showed endless gestures of gratitude. Her fellow students and teacher were able to witness this special moment. Everyone was so happy for her.
With this obstacle now behind her, she is on a thriving trajectory. She is testament to our strongly held posture that ensures all children, including those with special needs, are able to realize their God-given potential.
In the words of our amazing staff:
They are Champions! Thanks to your support, Chikondi will become a renowned tailor one day.
